Job Description

Advancing People - Recruitment Specialists are recruiting for an IT Operations Team Leader on behalf of a leading software provider based in Bedfordshire. They are a FTSE 100 business operating worldwide and provide software and consultancy to the UK market.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the operational running of Hosted and SaaS services for it's' customers. You will have a hands-on approach actively involved in the design and implementation of the services including: new customer on-boarding to services; the resolution of support cases; live service monitoring and maintenance; new service provision and continuous improvement projects. You will have technical knowledge of Linux web technologies, Cloud Services (Azure), networking technologies and a background in High availability service operations. Good knowledge of security practices working in a regulated environment and the flexibility to work out of hours will be required, including on call. This is an excellent opportunity for an Operations Team Leader with extensive support, team leadership, maintenance and project experience to provide L3 analytical incident management and resolution alongside project based deliverables across these product portfolios to ensure quality service delivery and Service Level Agreement compliancy

Responsibilities

  • Lead and prioritise the operations team's work load including coaching and development of team members
  • Contribute to the planning of application/infrastructure releases and configuration changes
  • Perform the on-boarding of new customers to the hosted platform and drive improvements to the process
  • Interact with internal teams and external 3rd party vendors to trouble shoot and resolve complex problems
  • Provide input to administering and maintaining all production and internal environments
  • Perform new hosted service implementations
  • Patching and upgrade of existing applications
  • Proactively monitor platform logs and metrics in order to identify emergent issues, performance improvement opportunities and feed into capacity planning
  • Investigate and resolve, or minimise the impact of recurring issues
  • To examine potential areas for Service Improvement and raise proposals with the Service Manager
  • Maintain application monitoring, performance tuning and testing where applicable
  • Provide input to administering and maintaining all production and internal environments
  • Provide input to the implementation, backup and roll-back plans
  • To examine potential areas for Service Improvement and raise proposals with the Service Manager
  • Owner of cloud strategy for hosting and SaaS services driving service excellence into bleeding edge web services achieving service availability of 99.95%
  • Developing business cases to support the technical strategy over 1, 3 and 5 years.
  • 3rd line technical support lead for the libraries and F&HE business working with complex and priority issues, ensuring our 99.95% SLA is achieved 24/7/365
  • IT Security and Data protection governance/compliance (GDPR.
  • Technical liaison, working with the services team and 3rd party private cloud providers to migrate customers to the private cloud.
  • Complete tender responses for technical and support service areas.

Skills required

Essential

  • Demonstrable years of commercial experience with Linux/Unix, preferably Centos 6/7
  • Experience of managing High available web services (HA proxy, Keep alive D)
  • Web technologies (Apache,NGINX,IIS)
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning various applications/infrastructure to provide a highly available service.
  • Design, implementation & monitoring of scheduled tasks
  • Advanced administration of Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, including administration of IIS (required)
  • Support of large, complex, customer-facing platforms (required)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure (highly beneficial)

Desirable

  • Experiencing working with SaaS delivery model
  • Understanding of Cloud networking principles
  • ITIL v3 experience
  • Support of complex applications (required), ideally php/Java based web services
  • Good understanding of networking principles and protocols (required)
  • Repository management
  • Database administration - both relational (Sybase, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (Virtuoso)
  • DR /BC planning for on premise and cloud services.
  • Backup technologies (on premise, hybrid and cloud)
  • In house DNS management
  • Configuration management (puppet, ansible)
